Wile Cup

The Wile Cup is a trophy awarded annually to a group of croquet enthusiasts. Formerly the ''Croquet Society Championship Trophy'' for the University of British Columbia's Croquet Society club (Croqsoc), the Wile Cup has since become an annual recreational award. It is named after Croqsoc founder and inaugural club president, Dr. Daryl J. Wile.
The Wile Cup was purchased by the club in 2004, to be presented to the player who earned the most points in tournament play during the 2003-04 Winter semester. The Cup didn't receive its moniker until the following school year, when President Corey M. Fischer christened the chalice in honour of the Croquet Society's founding father.
==Tournament Format==
Currently, the Wile Cup is contested for in a three round, points-based tournament. Players accumulate points determined by their outcome in two qualification round matches of varying difficulty. Round 1 is a traditional setup, often a backyard style course, on a level pitch of grass. Conversely, Round 2 is the 'Xtreme' style of croquet, involving rough terrain, and obstacle course-like design. The differing nature between the two qualification round matches is to ensure that the eventual Champion will need to exhibit a definable level of skill, as was needed during the four tournament UBC era.
Points are awarded for each Match's finishing position; 10 points for First, 7 for Second, 5 for Third, 4 for Fourth, 3 for Fifth, and 2 for Sixth. The top six point-getters from the qualification round advance to the winner-take-all Championship Match. A Wile Cup victor will have to play three differing styles of croquet in order to become the Champion.
